About this event

The 2026 "Final 4”01(k) – Tournament Style Benefits Policy Debate

Are you ready to change retirement plan policy? Don’t leave it to politicians—join us in debating eight crucial topics and help decide future retirement plan policy!

Thursday, March 12, 2025
4:00 PM until 7:00 PM

The Partners Group
11850 SW 67th Ave, Suite 100
Portland, OR  97223

Join us again for a panel discussion where industry professionals debate possible changes to retirement plan policy. Like last year’s rousing event, the format this year is based on the college basketball tournament bracket structure. Panelists and attendees will first consider how eight established retirement plan policies (including a wild card topic to be picked by attendees) ought to be changed, and then determine which proposed changes would have the most significant positive impact on both employees and employers.

Attendees will participate in live polling and have the opportunity to participate in the quick-fire debates and submit questions for consideration.

Policies to be discussed include:

Vesting schedules

Required contributions (due to minimum coverage testing, gateway, top-heavy, etc.)

Alternative investments

Auto-enrollment and escalation

Participant disclosures (SPDs, SMMs, 404(a)(5) notices, 402(f) notices, QDIA notices, auto-enrollment notices, etc.)

Penalty free withdrawals for primary home purchases

Federal mandate for retirement plans

Wild card topic determined by audience

Pricing is free for members and $50 for non-members.
